Hello World!
Here we go!
It’s strange that up to now, I’ve always focused on getting the website and online things done first and then whatever project they’re related to done, second. But that’s not how this project went.
In late 2024, I was asked to be the DJ for a wedding in April. I immediately said, “yes!” I’ve done it before and it always went well. Then I started thinking about the actual logistics–will my gear work, how will I handle toasts and announcements, do I have all of the right music? Before long, my head was swirling with thoughts about how to do this right.
You see, I don’t like doing things halfway. I don’t care if your wedding reception is in the fanciest ballroom or the coziest barn. This is your day and I want to make it the best I can.
My brother and I built a pretty impressive stereo system starting when we were in 6th and 7th grade. Believe it or not, I still have it, and it sounds great. However, the amplifier is starting to make popping and cracking noises while the music is playing. I don’t mind listening to it at home, but I don’t know if I can trust it for someone’s big day. So, off to YouTube I go. I watch tons of reviews on amplifiers, speakers, mixers, cordless microphone systems, and DJ controllers. I obsess over videos on speaker placement and what all is involved in setting up and tearing down events.
Before you know it, I have a new Electro-voice system that sounds great and is more than capable for most events I want to work at. I’ve also gotten pretty good at basic mixing (once I learned how to edit the beat grid, I was set).
The next thing you know, the wedding is here, and I’ve loaded my car full of gear and hopes and dreams. :)
Now, if I could just get all of the online stuff going…
